Her Majesty The Queen 1926 - 2022

All of us here at the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead are saddened by the death of Her Majesty The Queen.

The Royal Family is such an important part of the history and vibrancy of Windsor and the wider borough. The Queen saw Windsor as her home and and we are honoured that the Committal Service will be taking place at Windsor Castle on Monday 19 September, following the State Funeral in Westminster Abbey.

We’re sure that many people from the town, and further afield, will want to come and pay their respects before Her Majesty is laid to rest.

Please be aware that viewing spaces along The Long Walk are limited and areas will reach capacity very quickly.

The viewing areas are available from 6am on Monday 19 September. The State Funeral in London will be broadcast live on the screens situated on one side of The Long Walk.

Where to watch on the day

The State Funeral and Committal Service will be broadcast live on TV, radio and online. If you are coming in person then head for the public viewing areas (available from 6am) on The Long Walk where there will be viewing screens, welfare facilities and a number of accessible and disabled viewing areas.

Please use public transport

If you plan to visit, please use public transport wherever possible as there will be road closures and limited parking available. Rail and bus services will be busier than usual, particularly on the Bank Holiday itself, so plan your journey and check information in advance.

Check before you travel

Roads and car parks in Windsor are very busy and becoming increasingly so. Expect significant delays, please use public transport if possible and if you are driving, please know where you are going to park before setting off early. There is limited availability in our council car parks but there is additional parking available at two 'park and walk' locations.

Floral tributes

If you are visiting Windsor to leave a floral tribute to Her Majesty The Queen, please remove any plastic packaging from the flowers and leave them outside Cambridge Gate at the top of the Long Walk, as directed by stewards. Flowers are brought inside the Castle every evening, and placed on the Castle Chapter grass on the south side of St George’s Chapel and Cambridge Drive.

Book of condolence

An online Book of Condolence is available on the Royal Family's website for those who wish to send a personal message of condolence. A selection of messages will be passed onto the Royal Family and may be held in the Royal Archives for posterity. Many of our Royal Borough community partners are providing the opportunity to physically sign a book of condolence, at a number of locations.
